Gray hand coiled micaceous clay - Circa 2011

Renowned Native artist, Lonnie Vigil molds clay found from the Nambé Oweenge Pueblo in New Mexico to create contemporary works of compelling vision. An impressive composition, this piece by Vigil was the first prize winner of the 2011 Santa Fe Indian Market. Strikingly, the work resembles nature's gifts at harvest, possessing a rotund base in the like of a gourd. In winsome gesture, its elated form expands to fondly mirror a squash blossom before its petals expand, awash in light. To accomplish such design took incredible mastery of its maker. With a solid base, Vigil layered the spirit of this work in every coil. Carefully he contained the temperament of the clay while composing a shape of pure elegance. With graceful movement, its curvature is a mesmerizing illustration to behold. It's no wonder that this work of sheer marvel stole the hearts of many in its finest debut.
